Just how do hummingbirds build their nests? The Audubon explains with this video…
PS: You can pick up hummingbird nesting material from most of your local wild bird stores.
Just how small are hummingbird nests and their eggs?
The US Fish & Wildlife gave us this visual example:
‘Bout the size of a dime!
Here’s a good shot I found on Twitter of a hummingbird sitting on a nest.
Just to give you a thought about the size of the nest, this hummingbird will be no larger than 3.5″. Hummingbirds bind the exterior of the nest with spider’s silk. The interior can be lined with animal hair and plant down.
The male hummingbird spends a few seconds aiding in reproduction then the rest consisting of building the nest, nesting on the eggs, and caring for the young falls to the female.
